About 18% of all the cars sold in 2023 were electric vehicles. It increased from 2% in 2018 to 14% in 2022. These patterns show that even as the markets for electric cars intensify, growth is really strong. In the car industry, petrol-powered vehicles are unquestionably more popular. Fewer drivers are considering buying a car with a gasoline or diesel engine this year, even though more than half of drivers want to buy a new car. Less than one-third of drivers stated they would prefer to drive a gasoline-powered automobile, while just one in ten stated they would buy a diesel vehicle.

Advancements in battery chemistry, electric drivetrains, and software optimization have resolved previous challenges like range anxiety, rendering these cars more sensible and appealing to consumers of high-end cars. Luxury EVs are known for their remarkable performance qualities, defying the common belief that efficiency comes at the expense of performance in electric vehicles. Performance-driven buyers who want an exciting driving experience without sacrificing luxury are drawn to electric motors because of their quiet operation, smooth acceleration, and fast torque delivery.

 

Gasoline-powered ( petrol) vehicles

Particularly for high-performance versions, petrol vehicles are highly praised because of their availability, familiarity, and established driving dynamics. Petrol engine engineering has been developed over decades by brands like BMW and Audi, guaranteeing outstanding performance and handling qualities.

For example, the BMW M Performance line includes several vehicles with strong gasoline engines, such as the BMW M5’s V8, which is renowned for its strong acceleration and loud exhaust. Many drivers find petrol vehicles to be a practical option due to their broad availability and long-standing fueling and maintenance infrastructure. Petrol engines’ familiarity and dependability, particularly in high-performance areas, contribute to their ongoing popularity.​

The biggest obstacle facing electric cars (EVs) is their high price tag in comparison to gasoline-powered vehicles, which limits customer access to them. Another major obstacle is the lack of charging outlets, especially in areas with low population concentrations. Range anxiety, the worry that an electric vehicle (EV) may not have enough battery life to reach a destination, is exacerbated by this lack of infrastructure. All of these things work against the general acceptance of electric automobiles.

 

Gasoline powered vehicles

When compared to electric vehicles, petrol cars require more regular maintenance even though they are typically less expensive to maintain. This is because petrol engines require more regular oil changes and other maintenance due to their accelerated wear and tear. In countries such as India, the cost of gasoline can fluctuate widely between states and localities. One of the largest components of the total cost of owning a gasoline-powered car is fuel.

The petrol vehicle emissions contain greenhouse gasses that contribute to climate change and are harmful to human health. Hazardous byproducts such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, hydrocarbons, benzene, and formaldehyde are produced when gasoline and diesel fuel are burned.
